at traditional chinese tea ceremonies held during weddings, the bride and groom have to offer cups of tea to their elders as a form of respect. in return, they usually get a red packet as a blessing from their elders.
for those who don't know, a red packet (or hong bao, ang bao, etc) is traditionally given out during chinese new year or weddings.
you can read more about it here.

The enamel/porcelain sheen is captured very nicely. Also, the "circles" formed by the tray, the cup rim, and the tea peeking through make a nice composition.

Great shot! Love the reflection on the plate. :)

These look like an elder's hands. So maybe this person has just received the tea. I like this photo very much, it's a perfect composition.

Very nice symbolic shot. Good framing and excellent DOF. About the red packet: is it only symbolic or can it contains some money?

@Bendtherulz: oohh okay. (: it's always interesting to learn about other cultures' customs :D haha. thanks for sharing.
Quite different from how the British deal with their tea: lots of milk in it and lots of cakes and muffins around it. Also drinking it from the early morning to the late evening. I like this ceremonial use, we Westerners can learn from it to acquire some respect for each other. The picture reflects beautifully what the ceremony symbolizes, especially the mother-of-pearl glow.
