the tree right outside my house was struck by lightning a month or 2 ago. initially, we thought it would survive since it looked none the worse save for its damanged trunk. but slowly, all its leaves began to drop... til there was just this one left. it's gone now, but there are new green ones appearing, so i think the tree's still alive (:

human beings are like that too, are we not? we take a fall and think we're fine til it starts hurting so bad we have to admit that something's wrong. eventually, we heal and live to tell the tale of our rebound.

ah, the tenacity of living things, indeed.
