Silver Bells; the veil

Posted by ally (: (Singapore, Singapore) on 21 July 2007 in People & Portraits.

thanks lots for the comments and suggestions in my previous post (: i'll take note of them all. haha. once again, please feel free to give bad comments k? so that i can learn from them :D

so this is my cousin, getting her veil attached by the makeup artist cum hair stylist (: the history and symbolism of the wedding veil can be found here.

however, what i want to highlight in particular from that article is this:
"The lifting of the veil was often a part of ancient wedding ritual. In many cultures, the lifting of the wedding veil symbolized the groom taking possession of the wife, either as lover or as property, or the revelation of the bride to the groom by her parents for approval."

i didn't know that. no wonder the veil is so important... so yup, just an interesting little fact of the day for you to digest!

anyways, don't you think her expression here is so... mysterious? haha. it's fun to try and guess what she's thinking. my opinion is that she's dreaming of the life she has ahead of her - a start of a new glorious chapter.

what's your guess? (:
